Creating a Canton wallet in a vault account also activates a Canton Party ID on the network, so you must sign the activation transaction. A Party ID is the Canton equivalent of a wallet address. This article explains how to create a Canton wallet on mainnet or testnet, and which limits apply.
Before you begin
You need a vault account. If you do not have one, create a vault account first.
Create a Canton Coin (CC) wallet before any Canton token wallet in the same vault account. See Canton Assets on Fireblocks.
Create the Canton wallet before anyone sends you funds. Incoming transfers fail if the Canton wallet does not exist yet. This includes a transfer from another vault account.
Create a Canton wallet
Go to Accounts > Vault and open the vault account.
Start creating an asset wallet, then search for CC (Canton). For testnet, select the Canton Testnet asset.
Select Continue.

On the Configure Canton incoming transactions step, choose how the wallet handles incoming transfers:
Pre approval wallet: Incoming transactions are approved automatically. This option is selected by default.
Approval wallet: Incoming transactions require an explicit approval or rejection.
Select Create wallet, then sign the activation transaction.
You cannot change a wallet's type after you create it, so choose the option that fits how you want to handle incoming transfers.
For more about these two options, see Approve or Reject Incoming Canton Transfers.
Fireblocks generates your Party ID and registers it to a validator node automatically. You do not need to take any other action.
To create a Canton wallet through the API, see the Canton guide in the Developer Docs.
Use Canton Testnet
You can use Canton Testnet from the Console or the API. Testnet assets have no real value, so you can test without financial risk. Testnet supports the same capabilities as mainnet.
Wallet limits
Each Canton wallet you create has its own Party ID, which Fireblocks-managed validator nodes host. The Canton Network Foundation asks validator operators not to host large numbers of Party IDs on shared validators, so each workspace can activate up to 80 Canton wallets on Fireblocks-managed validator nodes.
The limit applies to activating Canton wallets. It does not apply to creating vault accounts.
To receive deposits for many customers or accounts, use memo-based addresses. See Receive Canton Deposits with Memo-Based Addresses.
If you need more wallets, contact Fireblocks Support. We review requests case by case.
If you run your own Canton validator, you can connect it to Fireblocks as an add-on through your Customer Success Manager (CSM). See Canton Validators and Bring Your Own Validator.
