Fireblocks supports Canton Coin (CC), USDCx, and tokens that follow the Canton token standard (CIP-56). This article explains each asset type and how to add Canton tokens to your workspace.
Canton Coin (CC)
Canton Coin is the native token of the Canton Network. It pays for network capacity (synchronization fees) and rewards validators, super-validators, and apps that generate on-chain activity.
Important: Create a Canton Coin wallet in a vault account before you create any Canton token wallet in that vault account. See Create a Canton wallet.
Small Canton Coin balances can expire
The Canton Network charges a holding fee on each Canton Coin holding (each contract), whatever its amount. A holding of 0.001 CC accrues the same fee over time as a holding of 1,000 CC. When the accrued fee exceeds the holding's amount, the network can expire the holding and remove it from the ledger. Canton calls this dust expiry.
When this happens, you see a Burn transaction for that amount in your workspace. Its transaction details show the reason Dust expiry.
For details, see Canton Coin tokenomics: dust expiry.
When you send Canton Coin, Fireblocks uses your largest holdings first and combines them into a single holding. Small holdings may stay unused and can expire on the network.
USDCx
USDCx is a wrapped version of USDC on Canton, backed 1:1 by USDC through Circle. USDCx is enabled by default for all workspaces.
Canton token standard (CIP-56) tokens
You can add Canton tokens that follow the CIP-56 standard to your workspace yourself, through the Console or the API. Only tokens listed in the Canton public registry can be added.
To add a CIP-56 token in the Console:
- In your vault account, start creating an asset wallet and search for the token.
- If the token isn't listed, select List asset.
- Select Canton (or Canton Testnet) as the blockchain, then select Continue.
- Enter the token's Admin ID and Instrument ID. You can get these from the token issuer.
- Select Continue to list the token, then create the wallet.
If either value is wrong, you see the error "Invalid Admin ID or Instrument ID". Listing an asset requires the Owner, Admin, Non-Signing Admin, Editor, or Signer role.
USD rates
Fireblocks shows the US dollar (USD) value of your Canton assets based on a USD rate for each asset. For tokens that follow the Canton token standard (CIP-56), we set this rate manually.
Testnet assets
Canton Testnet assets have no real value, so you can test without financial risk. Testnet supports the same capabilities as mainnet. For details, see the "Use Canton Testnet" section in Create a Canton wallet.
Block explorers for tokens
Canton explorers show only the data that the validator running them can see, so your token transactions may not appear there. Use the Fireblocks transaction details as the source of truth. For details, see the "Transaction hashes and block explorers" section of Canton Network on Fireblocks.
