Overview
This article explains how to create and submit an off-ramp order — converting digital assets into fiat currency — in the Fireblocks Console, including the smart contract settlement flow used by some providers.
New to off-ramp? Start here: What is an on-ramp or off-ramp order?
Before you begin
Make sure your workspace has:
- A connected provider account
- A whitelisted address for the fiat bank account you want to receive funds into
- An Order Policy rule that allows off-ramp orders (required for all providers)
- When you off-ramp from a vault: the native blockchain asset in your vault to cover the network (gas) fee on the transfer to the provider (for example, ETH on Ethereum, MATIC on Polygon, SOL on Solana)
Depending on your provider, you also need one of the following:
- Standard-transfer providers (OpenPayd, Yellow Card, Alfred Pay, dLocal, Bridge, Mopay, and Banxa) — a Transfer Policy rule that allows the transfer from your vault to the connected provider account.
- Smart contract settlement providers (currently CPN) — additional policy rules for the smart contract steps: Approve and Typed Message on EVM chains, or Program Call on Solana. These providers do not need a Transfer Policy rule.
See Getting started with on-ramp and off-ramp orders and Policy rules for on-ramp and off-ramp orders.
Funds on the fly (DVP)
With this option, you transfer digital assets from your vault, or from an external address, to the provider after creating the order. Once the provider receives them, it sends the equivalent fiat to your bank account.
- Select + to start a new transfer, then select On/Off ramp.
- Under From, select the vault account or Use External account, the digital asset you want to convert, and enter the amount.
- Under To, select the whitelisted address for your fiat bank account.
- Under Via, select the connected account to use. The list shows only accounts that support your selected asset.
- Select Create Order and review the order details. The system checks your order against your workspace policy rules.
- Once the order clears your workspace policy, sign the vault transfer to the provider using the Fireblocks mobile app or API co-signer.
- If you are off-ramping from an external account, payment instructions appear after you select Create Order. Transfer funds to the presented address to continue the process.
The order status updates to Awaiting Payment, then Processing once the provider confirms receipt of your digital assets. The provider then initiates the fiat transfer to your bank account and the order status changes to Completed.
Info: Some providers settle through a smart contract instead of a standard vault transfer. If your provider does, see Funds on the fly (DVP) — smart contract settlement below.
Funds on the fly (DVP) — smart contract settlement (CPN)
Some account-based providers receive your digital assets through a smart contract interaction rather than a direct vault transfer. Circle Payments Network (CPN) currently uses this for USDC off-ramp — via the Permit2 smart contract on Ethereum and Polygon, and via a program call on Solana. After order creation, the required signing requests appear automatically in the Fireblocks mobile app or API co-signer — no manual transfer is needed.
Info: Make sure the additional smart contract settlement policy rules are in place. See Policy rules for on-ramp and off-ramp orders.
- Select + to start a new transfer, then select On/Off ramp.
- Under From, select the vault account, the digital asset you want to convert, and enter the amount.
- Under To, select the whitelisted address for your fiat bank account and the payment rail (for example, SEPA).
- Under Via, select the connected account to use.
- If a Required information banner appears — for example, "To get your quote ready, please provide the provider with participant identification information" — select Provide info and complete the Add participant information form, then save. See Payout flow below for the fields collected.
- Select Create Order and review the order details. The system checks your order against your workspace policy rules.
After order creation, signing requests appear automatically in the Fireblocks mobile app or API co-signer. The type and number of requests depend on the source blockchain:
EVM blockchains (Ethereum, Polygon, and others)
- Approve — grants the provider's smart contract permission to transfer the token from your vault via the Permit2 contract. The approval amount is unlimited by default, so the allowance covers all future orders on that vault and asset without requiring you to approve again. This is a one-time step per vault and asset combination; subsequent orders on the same vault and asset skip it. This step recurs if the on-chain allowance is revoked or expires.
- Typed Message — signs the transfer authorization for this specific order.
Solana
- Program Call — a single program call that initiates the transfer. No separate Approve step is required.
While you complete these signatures, the order stays in Awaiting Payment — the signatures are how the digital assets are paid to the provider. Each step appears as its own entry in Recent activity and your transaction history. Once the transfer is confirmed on the blockchain, the order moves to Processing, the provider initiates the fiat payment, and the order status changes to Completed. If you do not complete the signing requests before the order expires, the order status changes to Failed. No funds are transferred.
Some providers may pause and request additional information before completing the order — see Awaiting Information below.
Awaiting Information
Some providers request additional compliance information or documentation after an order is submitted. When this happens, the order status changes to Awaiting Information. An order can enter this state more than once if the provider requires multiple rounds of verification.
When this happens:
- Open the order from History > Orders.
- The order panel shows what the provider has requested — fields to complete, files to upload, or both.
- Provide the required information or upload the requested files. Supported file types are shown in the panel.
- Submit your response.
Fireblocks encrypts your submission and forwards it to the provider. The order resumes processing automatically once the provider clears the request.
For example, Circle Payments Network (CPN) may enter this state when the beneficiary's banking partner requires enhanced Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation or source of funds confirmation.
Prefunded
With this option, you draw from a digital asset balance already held with the provider — no vault transfer is needed after the order is created.
Info: Make sure you have deposited digital assets into your provider account.
- Select + to start a new transfer, then select On/Off ramp.
- Under From, select the digital asset and select Prefunded as the rail.
- Select the connected account to use. The list shows only accounts that support this asset and the prefunded rail. The Via field is automatically set to the account you select.
- Under To, select the whitelisted address for your fiat bank account.
- Select Create Order and review the order details. The system checks your order against your workspace policy rules.
Once approved, the provider draws from your pre-deposited balance and immediately initiates the fiat transfer to your bank account.
Payout flow
If you are processing off-ramp orders on behalf of clients, you will need to provide participant identification as part of the order. Some providers require this information before they can return a quote — in that case, the order form shows a Required information banner with a Provide info button that opens the Add participant information form.
In the form, you select who you are identifying — Beneficiary, Originator, or Both — and whether each participant is an Individual or a Corporate or Entity. Depending on that choice, you provide details such as:
- Individual: full name and address (street name, building number, postal code, city, subdivision, district, country)
- Corporate or Entity: business name and address (same address fields)
The exact fields requested are set by the provider and only the required ones are shown. Some providers also collect a reason for payment or source of funds.
Both funds on the fly (DVP) and prefunded settlement types are supported for payout flow orders.
Tracking your order
All orders are visible under History > Orders in the left navigation panel. Use the Filters button to filter by status, provider, or date.
