Overview
The device migration feature allows any user to migrate from their old mobile device to a new device. They can complete an authentication process and migrate to the new device independently.
Important
The workspace Owner must activate the device migration feature before other users can migrate to a new device. In the Fireblocks Console, go to Settings > General > Linked user migration. After you activate the feature, you must restart your Fireblocks mobile app to export users from the old device.
Migrating to a new device via your old device
To migrate to a new mobile device, first install and open the Fireblocks mobile app on your new device and tap I have a new device. Then follow the instructions below.
Note
Make sure to download a new copy of the Fireblocks mobile app on your new device instead of using a backed up version of the app.
On your old device:
- Open the Fireblocks mobile app on your old device and go to Settings > Linked users.
- Select the user to export. If you have an iOS device, swipe sideways on the user and tap Export. If you have an Android device, tap the three dots next to the user’s name and then tap Export user.
- If you don't see the option to export, update the Fireblocks mobile to the latest version.
- Enter your PIN and tap Continue.
- Enter your passphrase, and tap Continue.
- Provide your biometric authentication. Your old device generates and shows a QR code. This QR code is valid for one hour.
On your new device:
- If this is the first user you are linking to this device, on your new device, tap Import existing user on the link your device screen.
- Otherwise, if you already have existing users linked to your device, tap on the Scan QR Code.
- Enter a new PIN, then tap Continue.
- If this is your first user, tap Allow, then provide your biometric authentication.
- Enter your passphrase, then tap Continue. The new device begins importing your user profile and signing keys. After it finishes, the device migration is complete, and the user and signing keys will be deleted automatically from the old device.
Migrating to a new device when the old device is unavailable
If you are the workspace Owner, submit a request to Fireblocks Support to perform the new device re-enrollment for you.
If you are not the owner, and your old device is unavailable, reach out to your workspace owner and request to be re-enrolled.
