WalletConnect migration from v1.0 to v2.0
WalletConnect, an open protocol that allows users to connect their wallets to Web3 decentralized applications (dApps), has announced its full migration to WalletConnect v2.0. This new version introduces compatibility with non-EVM networks, supports connecting to multiple chains simultaneously, and more.
As a result, WalletConnect v1.0 will be deprecated on June 28, 2023, and all dApps should be migrated to v2.0. If a specific dApp that you want to use has not migrated by this time, you can use that dApp with the Metamask-compatible Fireblocks Chrome Extension.
How does this affect Fireblocks users?
In short, nothing changes how you use WalletConnect with Fireblocks.
Fireblocks already supports WalletConnect v2.0 and will continue to support it throughout its lifetime. The migration to v2.0 doesn’t change how you connect to dApps using our WalletConnect integration. Any dApp that has migrated to v2.0 will be supported immediately.
- Please note that while you can connect to any dApp that works with WalletConnect through Fireblocks, you can only sign contract calls for EVM-based dApps with our built-in, standard WalletConnect integration.
- To sign contract calls generated by non-EVM dApps, you must enable that feature separately in addition to our WalletConnect integration.
Fireblocks will closely monitor this migration to help your Web3 operations remain intact.
