On June 1st, 2022, the Solana network was shut down due to a bug in its node software. A few hours later Solana Labs introduced a temporary fix and network activity was resumed. However, as part of the temporary fix, they stopped processing durable nonce transactions, pending an additional change in the node.
This type of transaction is critical for all platforms that use offline and asynchronous signing. Without it, transactions must refer to blocks submitted in approximately the previous 90 seconds, depending on network conditions. Since Fireblocks requires some transactions to be manually signed, it often takes longer than 90 seconds to sign.
As the timeline of fully resolving the issue was unknown, Fireblocks developed an alternative implementation that uses non-durable nonce transactions. This implementation was deployed at 1:20 PM EST on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022. However, it required signing transactions within 90 seconds or less.
Once Solana deployed a new fix that re-enabled the durable nonce transactions, Fireblocks proceeded accordingly by removing the aforementioned alternative implementation, re-enabling the nonce transactions functionality. This was done at 1:00 PM EST on Thursday, July 7th, 2022.
The previous transaction-signing 90 seconds time limit was removed.
