Fireblocks workspaces are configured to sign all transactions either with an online device or with a Cold Wallet device. This article discusses how transactions and configuration changes are signed and approved using a Cold Wallet device. For more information, see the Cold Wallet overview.
Cold Wallet transactions timeout and are canceled if they are not signed within eight hours after the transaction is created.
Notes:
- Creating a Fireblocks Cold Wallet workspace requires scheduling onboarding time. For more information please contact your Customer Success Manager.
- Cold Wallet transactions are logged in the Active Transfers and Transaction History like normal transfers in hot wallets, through the console, where you can filter through parameters like timeframe. See the Reviewing transaction article for additional details. For both hot and cold wallets, historical customer data will be kept for 7 years back.

Approving configuration changes with a Cold Wallet device
The workspace Owner can use the Fireblocks Cold Wallet mobile app to approve workspace changes such as adding a new exchange connection or whitelisted address. The user experience for approving workspace changes is the same as signing Cold Wallet transactions described above.
Users with Non-Signing Admin or Approver roles should use the Fireblocks mobile app instead of the Cold Wallet app to receive notifications and approve workspace changes.
Cold Wallet signing video guide
The device used to perform the confirmation and signing process must be in offline, supervised mode. This demo video clearly shows the Cold Wallet device with the WiFi symbol next to the Airplane Mode symbol. Under normal circumstances, the device is fully air-gapped.
Some of the images used in this video have been replaced by a newer design and may not match the current experience exactly.
