Overview
Fireblocks tracks and displays the US dollar (USD) conversion rates for all supported assets. These rates are retrieved at different times, depending on the purpose:
- Balances in the Fireblocks Console - The rate is updated every 30 minutes for assets shown in your Vault, exchange accounts, and whitelisted addresses.
- Fireblocks mobile app - The USD value displayed for transaction notifications is based on the most recent rate retrieved in the previous 30 minutes.
- Volume-based billing - Outgoing rates are based on the most recent rate retrieved in the previous 30 minutes and saved for billing purposes when a transaction is Pending Authorization. Only Mainnet assets are used to calculate billing rates. Testnet assets are not included in billing volume.
- Transaction Authorization Policy (TAP) enforcement - Rates are based on the most recent rate retrieved in the previous 30 minutes and saved for billing purposes when a transaction is Pending Authorization.
- Incoming rates - Incoming rates are based on the most recent rate retrieved in the previous 30 minutes and saved for billing purposes when Fireblocks detects the transaction. This only applies to exchange customers who are part of Fireblocks Network Link for Exchanges.
Note
The total balance displayed for accounts, vault accounts, and assets includes accounts that are archived or hidden from view in the Fireblocks Console and funds from transactions that have been frozen by your AML policy.
Calculating conversion rates
The primary source Fireblocks uses for market rates is CoinMarketCap, followed by CoinGecko if an asset or rate isn’t found on CoinMarketCap. Assets and transfers associated with Compound are retrieved using their rates. USGold provides rates for USG assets.
Rateless assets
If an asset isn't listed on CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko, or its rate hasn’t been updated in the past 24 hours by either source, no USD conversion rate is shown in Fireblocks. To determine the reason an asset's USD rate is not displayed in Fireblocks, please search for the asset ID or contract address on both sites.
Rateless assets are not included in billing volume. TAP rules based on USD value will not match the transaction, and the next applicable rule is applied.
Rate fluctuation
Because the TAP is enforced using the USD rate, significant rate fluctuations could lead to issues with policy enforcement. Fireblocks monitors blockchain network fees and other pricing indicators for irregular behavior to mitigate these issues.
