Activating an XRP address
To activate a new XRP address, you must deposit a reserve of at least 1 XRP. This reserve deposit amount cannot be sent to others, and it must always remain in the address for the address to remain valid. When an XRP address holds less than the reserve deposit requirement, it cannot be used to send new transactions.
Further, each token held in an account requires an additional 0.2 XRP to establish a trust line.
The XRP reserve deposit requirement is a security measure that protects the shared global ledger from growing excessively large from spam transactions or malicious usage.
Once the reserve deposit is confirmed, the XRP address is activated and you can use it to perform transactions.
Learn more about reserve requirements in the official XRP documentation.
Deactivating an XRPL address
Fireblocks does not natively support the Ripple operation to close an account. Withdrawing the 1 XRP minimum balance is only possible if Raw Signing is enabled in your workspace.
You can remove individual XRP trust lines using the Fireblocks Console or API.
