Overview
You can now stake Tron (TRX) directly from your Fireblocks vault accounts using WalletConnect and connected dApps such as Tronscan. Staking TRX on the Tron blockchain works differently than on other blockchains. Instead of a simple “stake,” you must freeze TRX. Freezing TRX locks your tokens and grants you Energy or Bandwidth resources on the Tron network.
Note
Currently, staking and delegation is supported only via dApps, such as Tronscan, using WalletConnect or the Fireblocks Browser Extension. Other dApps may work in the future, but are not supported in this release.
Once your TRX is frozen, you can:
- Earn staking rewards (applies to all frozen TRX)
- Receive network resources (choose Energy or Bandwidth when freezing)
- Delegate your frozen TRX. You can assign your staking power to another TRON address (for example, a validator). You still own your TRX and continue earning staking rewards. Delegation simply shifts the voting power to the address you select.
Your frozen TRX remains yours and cannot be transferred until you unfreeze it.
How to freeze TRX with Tronscan
- Connect your wallet: In Tronscan, connect your Fireblocks wallet using WalletConnect.
- Navigate to staking or resources: In Tronscan, go to the section that handles freezing, staking, or network resources. Refer to the Tronscan help center if you are unsure where to find this.
- Select a resource type: Choose whether to allocate your frozen TRX toward Energy or Bandwidth.
- Enter the freeze amount: Specify how much TRX you want to freeze.
- Set delegation (optional): If you want to delegate your staking power to another address, enable the delegation option and enter the recipient's TRON address. Delegation takes effect immediately once the transaction is confirmed on-chain — there is no waiting period.
- Confirm in Fireblocks: Review the transaction details and approve the freezing transaction in your Fireblocks wallet.
- Wait for activation: Resources typically become available within a few minutes.
For additional guidance on Tronscan-specific steps, or if the Tronscan interface differs from what you expect, refer to the Tronscan help center.
Limitations
- Unfreeze delay: TRON enforces a mandatory 14-day unfreeze period.
- dApp requirement: You must connect to a dApp such as Tronscan to initiate staking and delegation. Staking is not currently available directly from the Fireblocks Console.
- Connection must be established using Fireblocks via WalletConnect or the Fireblocks browser extension.
