Overview
Fireblocks now supports Tempo Moderato Testnet, a new Layer 1 blockchain built by Stripe and Paradigm, focused on stablecoin payments. Tempo is designed for efficient stablecoin transactions with USD-denominated fees. It has a unique design where transaction fees are paid using the transferred token, instead of the standard model of paying transaction fees using the blockchain native asset.
Key details
- Native token standard: TIP-20, compatible with ERC-20
-
Transaction fees:
- Fees are paid in USD using the token being transferred
- For TIP-20 transfers, the transferred token is used to pay the fee
- EVM compatibility: full smart contract support
- Testnet explorer: https://explore.testnet.tempo.xyz
- Testnet faucet: https://docs.tempo.xyz/quickstart/faucet
Assets on Fireblocks
Tempo
API Asset ID: TEMPO_MODERATO_TEST
The Tempo asset is used only to indicate that a Tempo wallet exists, in alignment with EVM implementation standards. The Tempo value reflected in Fireblocks is a very large number, 100T. This value does not actually exist on-chain, but rather reflects the node’s response when querying the eth_getBalance endpoint, which returns an even larger number.
PathUSD
API Asset ID: PATHUSD_TEMPO_MODERATO_TEST_O46L
PathUSD is a fallback gas token and is used for all blockchain operations, including:
- Minting
- Burning
- ERC-20 transfers
- Other non TIP-20 operations
TIP-20 transfers use the transferred token for transaction fees instead of PathUSD.
Supported functionality
Fireblocks supports these capabilities on Tempo:
- Custody: store TIP-20 tokens securely in your Fireblocks Vault with MPC-CMP protection
- Transfers: send and receive TIP-20 tokens with Policy Engine transaction controls
- Smart contracts: execute smart contract interactions with full audit trails
- Token management: add supported USD-denominated tokens to your workspace
- Gasless feature: Tempo is now available as part of our Gasless offering
Important limitations
Memo support
At this stage, memo fields are not supported. Incoming transactions that include memos will be processed to the destination address, but memo data will be ignored.
Transaction type 118
Tempo supports the ability to configure a token, which is neither the native asset nor the transferred token, to be used for paying transaction fees. This capability is not currently supported.
Configurable Fee Tokens are not supported
Cross-token fee payments (Tempo fee payer) are not supported at this stage.
Network fee currency display
The network fee currency is displayed as Tempo, even in cases where the transaction fee was paid using a different token.
Token listing
- Only USD-denominated tokens can be added to your workspace
- Self-listing of new tokens is available only for TIP-20 tokens
- Enabling ERC-20 tokens requires opening a support ticket with the Fireblocks Support team.
