Device requirement updates
This list was last updated on November 26th, 2025.
Existing devices configured before the most recently updated list will continue to receive full support from Fireblocks for all Cold Wallet operations.
Cold Wallet devices
Cold Wallet devices are dedicated, network-isolated iOS devices that sign all Cold Wallet transactions using biometric authentication and PIN verification. These devices run only the Fireblocks Cold Wallet mobile app in Single App Mode for maximum security.
To set up Cold Wallet devices, you need compatible iOS devices, a Mac provisioning device with Apple Configurator 2.19, and access to the Fireblocks Console.
Security requirements
Each Cold Wallet device must meet these security standards:
- Biometric authentication: Set up Touch ID or Face ID on the device before configuration.
- Factory-fresh device: Use a new, unopened, factory-unlocked device to prevent third-party software from compromising security.
- No MDM enrollment: Don't purchase devices through Apple Device Enrollment Program (DEP) or pre-enroll them with Mobile Device Management (MDM) programs.
Device requirements
Supported iOS devices
Use any of the following devices running iOS or iPadOS 15.0 and later:
iPhones
- iPhone SE (3rd generation)
- iPhone 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max, 13 mini
- iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16, 16e, 16 Plus
- iPhone 17, 17e, 17 Pro
- iPhone Air
Do not use iOS 26 with Cold Wallet devices!
iOS 26 contains a known bug that can cause the device to become unresponsive after a restart. This issue is resolved in iOS 26.1, where, after a restart, a "Continue without WiFi" pop-up appears and allows you to continue the setup process by tapping Continue.
iPads
- iPad (10th generation)
- iPad Pro (6th generation)
- iPad Air (5th generation)
- iPad mini (6th generation)
Mac provisioning device
You need a Mac computer to supervise and configure Cold Wallet devices using Apple Configurator 2.19. Fireblocks recommends dedicating a Mac solely for provisioning Cold Wallet devices.
Requirements
- Any Apple computer with macOS 10.15.6 or later
- Apple Configurator 2.19 installed from the App Store
- Lightning or USB-C cable to connect iOS devices
- Internet connectivity during setup
Multiple Mac computers can provision different groups of Cold Wallet devices.
MDM restrictions
Apple Configurator 2.19 cannot configure devices as "supervised" when they're connected to MDM software. This technical limitation prevents the Fireblocks Cold Wallet mobile app from installing on MDM-managed devices or devices purchased through Apple's Device Enrollment Program.
Fireblocks Console requirements
The Fireblocks Console provisions signing devices and scans pending Cold Wallet transactions.
Requirements
- Windows or macOS computer
- Webcam to scan QR codes from the Cold Wallet mobile app
- Internet connectivity
Cold Wallet vs. standard mobile app
The standard Fireblocks mobile app runs on iOS or Android devices for Hot Wallet workspaces and approving Cold Wallet workspace changes, like policy updates or external connections. Only users with Non-Signing Admin and Approver roles need the standard mobile app in Cold Wallet workspaces.
