Overview
Organizations often need to separate their crypto operations across multiple workspaces, whether for regulatory compliance, regional requirements, or cleaner financial reporting. But managing gas payments across all those workspaces can get complicated fast.
With an external workspace gasless relay, you can designate a single workspace to handle gas fees for all your other workspaces. This gives you:
- Simplified gas management: Instead of funding and tracking gas balances across every workspace, consolidate everything into one place.
- Regulatory flexibility: Keep assets segregated as required by regulations. For example, a US-based workspace might hold only stablecoins, while an EU-based workspace might hold ETH for gas. The EU workspace pays the gas fees; the US workspace stays compliant.
- Cleaner reporting: When gas payments flow from a dedicated workspace, pulling transaction data and reconciling costs is straightforward. No digging through blended data.
- No extra cost: You remain the owner of all your workspaces. There's no third-party service involved and no additional fees.
This approach is ideal for companies that have grown into multi-workspace setups and want centralized control over gas operations without sacrificing the organizational benefits of keeping workspaces separate.
How to use an external workspace as a gasless relay
- In the Fireblocks Console, go to Settings
> General > Gasless transactions.
- Toggle on EVM.
On the EVM window, select the Universal gasless option if it is visible. Otherwise, continue with the following steps.
With Universal gasless option Without Universal gasless option For the Relay, select External workspace. Note that the option to select a Vault account disappears.
- Use the hyperlink in the information bubble to open a feature enablement request to the Fireblocks Customer Success team. After you fill out the form, make sure you specify the external workspace that will be used as your gasless relay.
- Fireblocks Support will respond to your request by validating the gasless relay with an Admin from the external workspace and then connecting the workspaces. After they are connected, the relay is active, and you can begin using the gasless relay for applicable transactions.
- If you haven't already, select how you want the gasless relay to be used:
- On by default: Gasless transactions are enabled when available, but may be disabled per transaction.
- Off by default: Gasless transactions are disabled, but may be enabled per transaction.
- Off: Gasless transactions are disabled.
- When you're finished, select Save.
External workspace connection statuses
While you wait for Fireblocks Support to validate the external workspace's gasless relay and connect the workspaces, you can track the status of your request on the Gasless transactions page.
The following statuses can appear, depending on the progress of your request or the current status of the gasless relay connection:
- Requested: Your external workspace gasless relay request has been received but requires approval.
- Approved: Fireblocks Support and an Admin from the external workspace approved your request to use the external workspace's gasless relay.
- Active: Your gasless relay service is active.
- Inactive: You or your gasless relay service provider canceled the gasless service. Note that you may change relay services at any time.
