Overview
In some scenarios, your organization may want or need to change a workspace's Owner. Due to the sensitive nature of this action, Fireblocks Support has a specific procedure to help ensure the safety and security of the workspace.
Before you begin
Some prerequisites must be fulfilled before the workspace's Owner role can be transferred:
- The new Owner must have either the Admin or Signer user role in the workspace.
- The new Owner must already be fully onboarded to the workspace, including having generated their mobile MPC key shares.
- The new Owner must be able to sign transactions according to your currently active Transaction Authorization Policy (TAP).
How to change a workspace's Owner
The only way to change a workspace's Owner is to submit a request to Fireblocks Support. Your request must include the following:
- The exact workspace name
- The current Owner's name and the email address used for their workspace user
- The new Owner's name and email address used for their workspace user
Additionally, please note the following:
- The current Owner and the new Owner must verify their identities by scheduling a short video call with Fireblocks Support personnel to approve the Owner change.
- The new Owner must verify their recovery passphrase.
Changing a workspace's Owner takes approximately three to five business days. If you want more information about our Support SLAs, please refer to the SLAs article.
Important
If the current Owner created a Workspace Keys Backup, your organization should decide whether it will be kept or deleted/destroyed. In the latter case, the new Owner should create a new backup encrypted with their recovery passphrase.
What if the current Owner isn't available?
If the current Owner is unable to participate in the Owner change procedure for any reason, you must have a quorum of stakeholders from your company's board contact Fireblocks Support and present an official board resolution regarding the new Owner's appointment. After Support receives the requisite approvals, they will transfer the current Owner's role to the new Owner in a procedure similar to the one described above.
